Let's put this in perspective: The $40 million that is being spent on W's inauguration is just $10 million more than the original United States pledge for Asian tsunami relief efforts.

    in the end, the US will donate a great amount of money.
    where is the aid rom oil rich states like saudi arabia, qatar, etc?

    How much would Kerry have spent?
    (Also, it's donated money).

  3. I understand that it's all donated money, the blog was just to put dollar amounts in perspective. I know that we are giving more aid now, I was just talking about the *initial* pledge that we gave. Seems a bit stingy. No oil there...

    what's also awesome is that the US is slapping a tarrif on shrimp imports from thailand and some other countries. you know, countries that were hurt by the tsunami and don't exactly need a tarrif to screw with their aquaculture, a big part of their economies.

    my guess is that 30 mill will go a lot further in banda aceh, than in washington d.c.
